Glass thickness for tank worry.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Seller got back to me. He says it's 1.5cm thick(not including the metal framing). From the pictures he sent me, i don't see anywhere without the metal frame where he could've gotten that measurement except in the second picture where the base of the tank is exposed. I can't tell for sure whether it's exposed or simply something else.

is he nearby? go back and measure it yourself.

Yea, i'm dropping by his place sometime this week to do a non-obligatory viewing of the tank.

It is possible that the base could be thicker than the sides this is not uncommon in tank building,my new 250 is 12mm but has a double base on it.
It is not uncommon for DIY tanks to have a thicker base, I have one that has an 8mm base and 6mm sides it is a 55 that will be used as a sump.
I would do as someone else has advised go and messure it yourself but make sure you messure the sides or you could be in trouble 15mm base and 10mm sides would still be unsafe IMO.
Good luck hope it does pan out for you and it does turn out to be 15mm as it would be very safe.

I will definitely go there and measure it myself. Is 12mm still okay or considered slightly risky?

There are a number of companies in the UK that make the size of tank you are considering and they make it out of 12mm glass, although it seems to come out as 1.9 safety factor, but i cant imagine that companies would sell tanks that have a serious risk of bursting.Have a look at the link i posted in my previous post that is the same size and made from 12mm.

If it's 12mm or more then i'll definitely take it. Anything less then i'll have to tell the seller i won't be taking it. Thanks for all the help guys!
