ok well my idea was to take my perfectly fine 125 and use the glass for a bigger tank. i dont know if its a great idea, but it is an idea. haha. :nilly:
Even if its not 1/2" you can make the tank 25", just lift the glass up off the floor about 5". It wont have as much pressure on it then. If your 125 is 18", make your top viewing area 18'.

If you keep the glass a few inches above the bottom of the tank it sounds good, like jem 454 says just keep the top of the galss at the top of the tank and it would work out fine

1/2" thick is good i would say no smaller, and it doesnt matter how big, all that matters is how tall...

i dont think thats true............why do you say tank length doesnt enter into the calc for glass thickness

it is definitely is not true for plastic !!!!!
eg 48x48 needs 1.3 in thick cell cast
48x120 needs 2.0 inch

with a closed top..........bigger difference if its open top:)

Because he is going to make the tank 72", just like the 125 he is taking apart.

Cant beat the feeling of making your own tank
