Glass Top Hinges - are there ANY good ones?!

Hmmm, I've never actually seen a setup where the tops were just separate pieces of glass with no connection. While it's not a bad idea, I think you'd really have to have a close match up between the pieces. I know my current pieces would have about an 1/8"+/- gap between them without the current plastic hinge. Not only would that allow for too much "splash" water, it would also allow for the sections to be "popped" up too easily - when they're connected there's much more weight overall (and I have some large fish!).

I supposed that "waterproof" tape would work, if it was wide enough - could put it on the top and the bottom, but I'm not sure I've ever seen (single-sided) waterproof tape - stuff like "Alien Tape" is double-sided.

What about Flex Tape (even works underwater)? The commercials show that it is one sided.
 
Hmmm, something to think about. I tried spraying the FlexSpray on the inside of one of my old tank cabinets, thinking it would make it all waterproof. That was a waste - it scraped off SO easily.

I have used flex tape and it is indeed one sided.
