Glass vs Acrylic

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Main thing for me is whats gonna stand the test of time better.

A glass tank that's handled properly during a move, and sat on a leveled stand should outlast you.

I didnt think about drilling for the cans makes sense

Recently moved a giant gourami into a 180 acrylic and the sucker barely fit into the tight opening. I should have gone with a bigger tank cuz it'll outgrow this one soon. I'll probably have to cut the top opening to get the fish out when the time comes.

With big tanks, the ease in moving acrylic is enough for me.

Just got a quote on an 96x30x24 3/4 all around 1/2 top and bottoms 2 center braces and 50$ per lid (2)

should i just get 3/4 on the bottom too ?

Any way the acrylic at 3/4 thickness is coming in cheaper than the glass at 5/8.

Can you guys recommend some acrylic tank builders that you've used.

1/2" on the bottom is fine, most builders make the bottom piece thinner.

Only bad thing about acrylic is it can scratch easily. Especially with big fish and sharp fins. I use a mag float acrylic and have pieces of felt sandwiched between the magnets. I can't see too many scratches unless the lights are off and the sun is shining on the tank. I'll never buy a big glass tank again I was looking for a new tank 12x4x3 and after talking to 4 different builders I felt most confident with the guy who builds the tanks for fishtanksdirect

Mighty mags makes acrylic scratch buffer pads. Just put them between your magnets and buff the scratches out.

Thx guys jsodwi jsodwi havent contacted fishtanks direct yet. They offer the tsunami tank line right ?
