I think they are ugly, but to each their own.

I think nothing is wrong with inserting genes into the original embryos. I believe domesticating wild wolves and cats and denying them their instinct was much more wrong than adding a gene into a zebra danio who probably will never even know that they are any different than a regular zebra danio.

PS. the blue variety looks terrible IMO. For the sake of Glofish, hopefully they use a gold zebra danio or something and try again since the striping makes it look like a regular zebra danio.

It's not dye injected. It is actual genetic manipulation that is causing the fish to look like this. They are fine if you like them, I think they are a bit garrish and a fad to bring more kids into fishkeeping. As Industrial said, to each his own.

Who said anything about Dyed fish? Its just altering the genes that effect color and nothing else. They think, and behave like Zebra Danios and also live just as long. This is MUCH more humane than Dyeing, The Danios feel no pain because they are born the color there parents were. This could help the problem with dyed fish. People who want fish like this have a choice of dyed fish, glofish, or a colorful normal species. A lot of the colorful small species of fish are expensive. Guppies are weak fish. Tetras cant provide the same colors as a glofish. I actually prefer many tetra species too glofish but many people like the look glofish have. When my friend asked about the painted fruit tetras, I told them what happens to them and I showed glofish and he loved them. If I had a choice between regular danios and glofish, It would depend on the tank I setup. Many people start off with the fake looking colorful steps and glofish match them. These types of fish and setups are kinda like gateway drug into serious fish keeping.

To each their own, at this current time I can't see myself keeping them but who knows what lies down the road.

I dont like them. People just think if they could do something and not if the should. Leave nature alone and stop messin **** up.

says the person with a flowerhorn and RTCxTSN hybrid :screwy:

I see nothing wrong with keeping hybrids but they are messing with nature. Actually all fish keepers mess with nature. Do fish naturally occur in aquariums?
I probably wouldn't buy GloFish right now though. Maybe for my little sister.
