Just wondering if I need to glue/cement plumbing on the drainage portion of my wet/dry? I would usually glue, but I'm concerned about disassembly. The wet/dry on this tank isn't fitting very well under the stand, so I need a few of the pieces to be removable. Is gluing necessary?

Since there is no pressure to speak of you could probably get away with it, but...

... if vibration were to loosen up the fittings you could have a major problem.

... you could have problems with water weeping through the unglued joints.

... if it is saltwater you will have lots of salt creep at the joints.

I would say that if it is in or over the wet-dry you should be fine, but if the joint is in a spot where failure would cause a flood I would glue it.

glue everything. unions will solve your problems.

That's what I did. I spent a small fortune on unions when I did my current setup.

I agree. Glue them for a sure-fire drip free system. get unions if you are worried about the tear-down.

I would use a union, but the unions for the 1 1/5" pipes are very large. They are too large to use in this situation, because the top of my sump is close to the bottom of the tank.

Unions are the way to go if you know you will be disassembling and reassembling the drain at some point. If you are thinking "just-in-case" it is probably going to be a lot cheaper to just cut out and replace part of the piping if necessary - one union costs as much as several common fittings or a whole stick of pipe.
