Hey

Can anyone tell me the common name or L number for GLYPTOPERICHTHYS JOSELIMAINAUS? I've googled the name and got nothing.

This is listed a Leopard Pleco / GLYPTOPERICHTHYS JOSELIMAINAUS at my LFS. Until I saw the saw the alternative name, I was under the impression that Leopard was often used as an AKA for the Sailfin pleco / GLYPTOPERICHTHYS GIBBICEPS. I've since noticed that the LFS has both listed on their stock list as follows...

Leopard Pleco / GLYPTOPERICHTHYS JOSELIMAINAUS
Sailfin Pleco / GLYPTOPERICHTHYS GIBBICEPS

I've haven't been in yet, just looking at their stock list. Can anyone shed any light on this?

It´s the L-001.
I don´t know the common name in English, though

The current valid name is Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus. Some of the common names are L001, 'gold spot pleco' or just 'common pleco'.

The genus Glyptoperichthys (and Liposarcus) are currently considered synonyms of Pterygoplichthys, with neither being different enough to warrant being a separate genus. They sometimes get used because taxonomy and systematics are always in flux. Sometimes we get new word to group a bunch of species, or sometimes we go back to an older word. The species name (I think) is kept constant, unless two or more species get placed in synonymy with each other, and then the earliest name is valid.

Common names seem to be different depending on where you are... this is the most common though.

'Sailfin' and 'Leopard' for L83;GLYPTOPERICHTHYS GIBBICEPS

Thanks for the advice guys, this helps. They also have a golden spotted pleco under the (almost) identical species name GLYTOPERICHTHYS JOSELIMAIANUS

No, it's a miss-spelling. The species name Pterygoplichthys joselimaiANUS, not joselimaiNAUS.
