My little F1 E. Cyanosticus Gombe is holding. She is only 2.5". I have 6 of them in my 120G Tropheus tank. I bought them a few months ago. I noticed she was holding yesterday. Marked my calendar. I understand she should trade off with the male at some point. Then the consensus is that you can strip after the male holds for a week. Is this correct? I have read that you won't get any survivors unless you strip. I'm a little concerned about stripping them as the male is the same size and their mouths are not big. Any tips or links to good threads on breeding/stripping gobies?

Thanks!

Will

Not the greatest photos, but you get the idea:

Little tropheus in front, but you can see the bulge:

Another one, without the troph butting in:

Awesome. I had a wc pair but the male died 2 years ago. She is still around now. I know nothing about breeding them excpet that they hand off eggs. Congrats

Thanks J. Lake :) I'm expecting this to be a "practice run", since as far as I know this is her first time holding. Plus, I don't know if the male will remember to trade with her later since it's an active tank and they are really tiny. Wanting to get my ducks in a row and my research done for when it's for real. I may net all the gobies out and put them in their own tank. I really wasn't expecting them to breed this soon!

congrats and good luck with this. hopefully its a successful spawn for you. I am not familiar with breeding these but as far as stripping i would assume same way as any other small fish. i just hold them and i use a dental pick to hold the lower jaw down before flapping the gills. tiny fish like that really can be a pain in the a** to strip sometimes. lol

Thanks Mike,
That is probably the way to do it. Do they spit the eggs/fry (like trophs) if they get stressed? I'll try net him at night after I see that they have made the switch. I have about 150lbs of Texas Holey Rock in there, so it's not easy to get fish out. But that seems a lot easier than trying to strip him. What do they eat once they are free swimming? Powdered spirulina flake or crushed NLS, or do I have to culture infusoria or BBS? Thanks again for your feedback :)

@ Mike - Thanks for confirming the fry food I was thinking of will work :)

@ jhutch - +1 on the stripping. I normally strip my tropheus, but these gobies are so small. The mouths are too small to even fit a q-tip in! I don't want to "spring" it's jaw when I strip it. I'm probably going to get a 10G w/no substrate hooked into my main system's sump and put pappa in there. Hopefully he won't spit and gobble them before I notice. Might put a little breeding grass and few rocks for hideouts. She is still holding today :)
