Goby Holding :) Got some questions....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
She's been holding since the 4th, so I expect to see the hand-off around the 14th or 16th (based on Ad Konings' notes in BTN). Need to start plumbing up a small tank soon :)

thats cool. your 10g idea sounds great too. i use dental pick to push lower jaw down. works perfect for little fish cause its so small. but i can see your point of not wanting to mess the jaw up. i always worry about holding them too tight when i make them spit. also you could put some rock work in the bottom of the 10 with cracks the babies can hide in but the adult cant get to. ive done that and it works well but then i think ive only let one or two spit on their own anyway. good luck. look forward to the updates.

I'll have to remember the dental pick idea. That is pretty small :) Thanks for the feedback and I'll keep posting as this develops.

Finished up plumbing the overflow for the 10G to main sump. Added a little aragonite sand and will put in a little rubble rock so that they have places to hide. I can't tell which is holding now (male or female), so I'm probably going to wait a couple more days to move them into the new tank just to be safe. Here's some pics:

Pulled all my rock-work tonight to get the holding fish out and into the 10G grow out tank. When I netted him, he spit 6 fry! All were fully developed and all the egg sac was absorbed. Now I have them only in the 10G. I bought some frozen mysis and bbs, and also some Hikari first bites. I mixed it all in some of the tank's water to soak and fed them. I don't see any of them eating yet. Any tips on feeding really tiny babies? Here are some pics (not the best, but the little black doodles on the bottom are the babies):

I have no idea when I have really small fry I fed these flakes (I wanna say some sorta egg flake) and just crumbled them super tiny and fed it out. Congrats on the fry!!

hahah awesome. Yeah i usuallly never try and open the mouth im stripping. I just gently hold the fish and dump its head in and out of the tank water. By the second dunk they usually spit. Keep us posted

Thanks! I'm really stoked about them. They are still alive. The mysis is too big for them, but the BBS and Hikari First Bites seems to be doing the trick. I'll post more pics when they are big enough for the camera to focus on. haha....
