GOD I HATE CRAPPY LFS'S

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Got some crushed coral to make the water hard and alkaline...been told to mix some epsom salts and bicarb and add that too! They are pretty fish. In the african section they have id'd them as melanochromis...the blue being the male and the yellow the female...apparently they kill their girlfriends unless they have lots!!!

As you can see my cameras crap...I would buy a new one, but everytime I think about it I remember I could get another tank for the same price!!!

Shops like that should just get shut down and put out of business. I would even go as far as to say charge the owners with fines!

Well you have to understand an lfs is a business first and foremost before anything. If they did a background check on everyone just to see if you could care for the fish properly they would go out of business in a flash.

If you find an lfs that actually cares for the fish they sell consider it a plus.

The blame is not soley on the lfs either. Why didn't your neighbor do proper research before buying the fish? You don't go out and buy a car without first testdriving and learning as much as you can about it.

All I'm saying is don't be so hard on them. They have to make money too.

That doesn't mean that they should be irresponsible with tht fish they sell. I would get mad at a produce store if they were knowingly selling diseased food. I agree that your neighbor should have done research before, but they should at least have enough common sense to not sell cichlids to a guy with a biorb and a Dwarf Gourami. They took advantage of the customer's naivete.

i agree. ive been saying this for years since the net became a good medium for info. granted some sites are pants but if you get attached to a forum like this then your gonna do ok.
althoug i also think that the lfs should educate staff properly. the net, and the ease with which info is obtained from it, doesnt give them the right to forget about proper care and staff training either.

Its still deeply irresponsible to sell things you know nothing about and criminal to give false advice to people who trust that you will know what you are talking about. If I went to a car showroom and said I have a field in the back of my house that I want to race aroun and they sold me a corvette I would get my money back! They should lose their license. My neighbour is now begining to comprehend that there is more to fish than chucking them in a bowl. Why should fish have to die so he can find this out....

If you want to make money out of selling fish it is YOUR DUTY to know what your talking about and give decent advice!

A fish isnt a car. Do you do research before you buy a gallon of milk or a case of beer? The price is more comparable to those things than to cars. Im not trying to be insulting but alot of people consider asking questions at the LFS to be their research , and frankly, i think that the lfs should know enough about fish to be able to help with that.
