Goin on a fish fast

I can relate to you. I had just a 29 with a Convict pair. Then I wanted another fish tank and bought a 20 long, then decided I could go with another. I picked up a 56 with stand and everything for 15 bucks. Then I bought a used 55, and just recently bought a 125. All of this has happened in 6 months just to make it better. Oh yeah and I have 2 10 gal tanks, but their dry but still.

Just use your money not to put more money into the tanks you have now. My 55 and 125 needs stands built, right now their sitting in the ground with fish and all, it looks dumb, lol. Also set a limit per pay check to spend. I spend 20 bucks a pay check (each week) on fish supplies. I'm not cheap or poor, lol just don't need to spend 100 plus bucks a week like I used to on fish supplies.

Just chill a bit and spend your money in smaller amounts, instead of buying that AC110 buy some new foods or something that is cheaper and put back 30 bucks or so a check till you get enough to buy something more expensive. :)

Sel control is a hard thing to learn. You just have to stop yourself from buying. Or, just find another project to work on as well.

I may have to do this. I can't get over my fish buying problem either.

Told my GF I'm done. At least for a while. She gave me a look of disbelief like, "I've heard that before". I have multiple tanks that weren't all fully stocked and have been spending way too much time and money of fish lately. Told myself I wasn't going to buy anymore fish for a while but forgot that I ordered some Geophagus Tapajos from fish store that I promised to pick up this Friday. I even went and picked up a couple fish tanks that dude had responded back to me from craigslist reply. Two 20L gallons for $10.

How do I find self control? I'm not pressed for money but I know I don't need to be spending hundreds of $ every month on fish and not eating them.

Anybody can relate. Its like you tell yourself you don't need any more and then you watch your tank and say, "hey you know what would make this tank look better".

Get some asian parents. They're great at saying you can only have 1 tank (10g) and they hate going to the fish store, talking about fish, or anything fish related. That's my therapy. It's still not working though, cause it just makes me want to move out asap, buy a house right next to the lfs, make a huge tank DIY, and put a couch in front of it and just sit there till I die :D. JK, but really... asian parents:grinno:

Well, I think the biggest problem that I’ve found out is any hobby is a money trap. When you get more into it, you find “deal after deal”. I’ve gotten free tanks before but it takes gas to get out there to pick it up, then you have to buy filters and heater and substrate, not to mention fish. Before you know it, you find that the free 125 gallon cost you over $500. That’s why I’m trying to wean myself off of craigslist. Always a good deal too hard to pass up.

I have several hobbies. Matter of fact, I barely have time for anything so I find comfort in relaxing myself with my fish tanks when I’m home. I’ve tried setting up tanks for other people, only to have them kill everything. They expect you to do all the maintenance.

Packer I agree with what you said. Instead of buying an AC110 I found a “deal” on craigslist and got 3 filters, a H.O.T., Magnum for 125, and a 75 gallon and some other stuff under what I would have paid to get the 110. Since I have all the filtration and supplies I need for my tanks, I will try to collect some rocks and driftwood while the weathers still warm. Gonna a try to be good for a while. I think I can!
