Going Acrylic/Have Plecos

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My watermelon did ruin my tank. They have little rasps in their mouth. When they clean algae off the glass I could see the scratches. Put your finger in your plecos mouth and you will see what I'am talking about. The common may be O.K. BUT not my experiance with any of the panques or pseudos. It's up to you in the long run though.

I don't own a Watermelon and I don't doubt that they have teeth. I've seen the pictures on Planetcafish.com. My 3 Plecos have no teeth, as far as I can tell, by either staring into their mouths as they hang on the side of the tank or from picures I've seen on the net (Planetcatfish.com). I was just highlighting how difficult this decision is (not to mention potential risk if I'm wrong) since I have conflicting advice with the same species of Pleco.

The first 2 poster to this thread had me convinced that it was a bad idea to put my Plecos in my new acrylic tank. Then the next batch of Plecos led me to believe that it may be ok to do it.

If I owned a Panque species especially a Royal, I wouldn't even think about putting it in the tank. But I don't own any Panques, I have 2 Common Gold Spots and 1 Rhino Pleco. These guys appear to have a soft mouth with no teeth (though you should see them tear into a side of squash). Still not sure what to do and would like to hear from owners of Rhino Plecos and acrylic tanks.
