Im going to Saratoga racetrack for a month this summer,(:)) and Im really worried about my 2 tanks. Last year I went and my 29g was almost completly destroyed. There was 1/4 of an inch of food on the ENTIRE bottom of the tank and she didnt turn the light off for the whole 26 days. Still I dont know why, but all my fish survived. (No water changes eather)

Now I have a good friend in fish keeping, and he is my best friend too, and he can most likely watch my tanks and feed. I usually do krill every other night for my 75g tank, and krill every other night for my cichlids, and pellets on the nights I dont feed krill. The problem is, is that my friend doesnt do a lot water changes on his tank. He does them like every 6-8 weeks, on a moderatly to heavily stocked tank. It worries me that, that will happen to my tanks too, and I will be furious if any of my fish die. So what I want to do is build an automatic water changer. I THINK I have seen some at my LFS. They looked like pvc pipes with 2 elbows and a ball valve with a hose on the bottom of it. Is that an auto water changer or is this something else. If it isnt how can I make one? Im really worried and dont want my fish to die. I have mostly hardy fish (cichlids and catfish), but I do have pretty delicate fish also(L-260 and L-190). Can you guys please help me? :)

Thank you for your help.

Thank you for your help.

its great that you want to do all this, but what i was thinking if you just up the amount of canister filters u should be fine for a month..for instance if you have one on it put two.. etc..

Im only 15 and dont have a job yet(:() and Im trying to save up so I can bet at the track.(future gambling addict. LMAO) Even if I had the extra canister tho it still wouldnt help with nitrates...

Between 1 month and 6 weeks. Still not sure tho.

I would think you would be fine, just do a really good cleaning & large water change prior to leaving.
Tell your friend to under feed the fish.
I have never had that situation, but I think you would be fine.

So it wouldnt even be worth doing the auto water changer?

Well then if its worth doing, I might as well do it before I leave ya know?

How would I go about making it?

Because I do have at least 2.5 months before I leave.

I have never made one myself(yet).
I will look around & see what I can find for you,I think Neo posted his setup somewhere...

Do you run a sump on this tank?
