I have a 10 inch oscar and 5 silver dollars.

I am going away for 7 days.

I know that larger chiclids can go without food for significant amounts of time but for how long and what about the sds?

What would you recommend for interim care. I might be able to get someone in to check on them. Would it work if I have someone in once? twice?

What do you think?

I'd much rather not feed my fish for a week and come home to some hungry fish (I've gone as long as three weeks) than have someone come feed them and come home to dead fish from fouling the tank from overfeeding.

ya 7 days go for it

i would do the following: power feed them prior to leaving, but do massive water changes every other day, or every day if you are able to.
1 day before leaving, stop feeding and do a massive water change. the fish should be fairly full, and there's no danger of the water fouling up since they would have nothing to eat the day before, but will still be full from the power feedings.

I would not worry about it. Fish are capable of withstanding long periods of time without food. I don't trust anyone to care for my fish, even my immediate family. I always feed and do WC's myself.

One extra thing I do when leaving for a period is reducing the temperature. Last time I set it to 24 C. Maybe not a humane way but I hope it decreases the agression and pollution.
