So tomorrow I officially start my native hobby. Going collecting tomorrow for some bluegill for my 75 gallon.

Will these fish show better captive colors due to good water chemistry and consistent feeding?

Very excited. Will update with progress.

Get some redbreasts, way better looking than bluegill. Best looking sunnies besides longear

Only if you have 1 or more than 10. Redbreasts are awful. Mine killed my crappie and almost beat my pickerel to death. Go with bluegills, they aren't as aggressive. I don't know about the colors though. My redbreasts colors did improve in my aquarium.

You are right about the colors though. Those and bluespotts are amazing.

Id say the two you mentioned are way better than having a bluegill. I personally dont like them because for some reason when they are put in the water their colors seem duller. Like when I put this one back in the water it just looked slightly greenish and no noticeable orange "beard".

But I was also at an above position overseeing it so I could be long. For whatever hou do good luck on it

I've only ever caught bluegill in the lakes I fish in. Not many other lepomis.

I do have access to lots of bass, perch, and crappie though, so I'll have a good time with my natives!

Crappie are great. Hard to get them on pellets though.

Collection went great!
But not as planned.

Instead of all bluegill, I caught:

1 male bluegill, 6.5"
1 male pumpkinseed, 5"
2 unsexed green sunfish, 3-4"

You guys say bluegills aren't pretty fish? You've must have never caught a breeding male and I'm here to prove you wrong.

Pics to follow soon.
