usually for my ten gallons i check every thing, do a water change and stuff. I will also do that for the my new 55. But what about feed the monsters. I got the gar, oscar and red tail cat. The local fish place said throw like 30 rosy reds in there they will be ok. I'm going to be tone for 2 weeks but my parents will be back in a week so they will take over feeding after a week of me not being there. what should i do?!?!

I just spent over a week in Mexico, not 1 fish died from lack of food.
The only time I've ever had fish die while on vacation, is when I had someone else feed while I was gone, I came back to stinking tanks of dead fish, with uneaten food still sitting on the substrate, and polluted water.
And this after I gave strict instructions not to overfeed.
Amateurs haven't got a clue.

It's a week, relax. What kind of gar and how large? How big are the oscar and RTC? What are the fish eating?
Yeah, feed them good before you leave and they should be fine.I never was crazy about leaving feeders in the tank while I'm away and uhh..can that RTC eat any of the others possibly?

What I do when I go on vacation is put the amount of food that I want in those little pill dispenser, the ones with monday thru Sunday, then I ask my uncle to just dispense one each day to each tank, that way its controlled the amount of food. Those can be purchase at most stores, Walmart have them for about a dollar each, I think its worth it!

I've left my fish unfed for up to 2 weeks during vacation without issues. Fish can live for months/years without food so a week or 2 is nothing. My only concern for the OP is that rtc and oscar, being predators and all. They might go at each other depending on the size differences. Hunger might make them desparate and aggressive towards each other.

that small size they might need food but dont have someone else feed and lose the rosies.
