Going on vacation for 9 days....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was going to do that, but was just worried with it being 9 days. It seemed a bit too long to go without since some were so young (fry) I told her to feed them every other day, or even every third day, but instead she thought she was helping and did it every day, mass amounts. Oh well, live and learn. None died, no accidental cycling....all is good in the end.

Yeah I left last year to Yellowstone for 1 week, my Dad was food monitor...came back and the water was RED, OMG, my Mom said, "I told your father you never fed them that much". He thought to feed them the whole container by the time I got back

Im leaving for 4 days this weekend...Dad is food monitor again, its OK he's learned his lesson. He's watched and pet sit numerous times after that...BUT i have 2 PetCarry containers with 1" EBJs and 1" Festaes down at the bottom of the 55gal. Means he has to fish it out and feed them.............nah I'll just have him leave those alone.

Also eggs are due to hatch tomorrow or the next day...be okay they'll have the sac to live off.

Hello; You may wany to go with light or no feedings for a while. One advantage of several days of no feeding is that fish and if you are lucky enough to have snails, is that they will scour the tank. All that extra food may trigger a bloom of various critters that the fish will feed on for a time. Your vacation did not end in a disaster as it has for many others and myself when non-hobbiest overfeed tanks. Fish do not suffer from many days of fasting, at least in my experience.

Just think of this: females go for... 30 days minimum to whatever day they decide to spit so I think 9 days of no food is safe :) just a thought. Ive went on vacation for 14 days. The only real threat is a power outage that outlasts the oxygen in the water.

Thats funny cuz my Female eats until she lays eggs and eats while shes guarding eggs and eats with wigglers.

I'm gone quite a bit so I have my Father In Law feed for me. I put the food I want to be fed in bag and tape the bags to each tank. I have 7 tanks and he feeds each one on the schedule I give him.

He understands they are important to me and does what I ask :) I write out instructions for him and hide all the extra food.

I don't have him feed daily, just every 3-4 days. This way I worry less about tank fouling and my fry survive.. If I had adults instead of juvies I wouldn't feed them.

(I don't have him feed the adult tanks).
