I am going out of town for 8-9 days. My tank has 1x4-5'', 4x6'', and 1x8'' pbass. Will they be fine without food? and if the 8" pbass gets hungry can it eat the smaller fish? Is there anything I should do to the tank before I leave.

How long till u leave? I would have quarentined bout a 100+ feeders. In 8-9 days they're gonna be hungry....little guys may be eaten.....no trust worthy friends?

Fish can go a week without food no problem.... As long as they aren't stressed and eating well right now, I don't see any problems with not feeding them. I'd just feed them heavy before you leave and heavy when you get back. I'd be weary of introducing that many feeders to a tank at once without being able to monitor the tank. Some of my fish like to "half eat" feeders and this causes a huuge mess in my tank that could foul the water pretty quickly.

agreed.
you could just feed heavy several days before leaving.

I agree with the above also. Amp up the feedings before you leave do a water change and then the fish will be fine for a week or so. The worst thing that can happen is water issues. No food is not going to hurt them.

LOL when you get back would be a good time to get them off live food, they will eat anything you drop in the tank at that point :)

Thanks for the advise. I always feed them as much as they can eat so they are pretty fat and look very healthy so I think im just going to do a water change and that it. Doesnt look like theres any need to complicate things.

My fish are a little bigger than what you have but I just got back from a 7 day vacation and the fish were fine when I got home. Like the other guys said the key is in your setup, not the lack of food. In my case my biggest concern was that the tank wouldnt evaporate so much that my pumps would suck air. So all I did was feed them real good the night before I left, and made sure the sump was as full as I could get it without causing overflow if power failed. With the tank being so warm (87) and the temp in the house pretty cool, the tank evaporated ALOT of water. Sump was right at the minimum marker I put on it in just 7 days.

These are all good lessons for test runs in case anyone else is thinking on leaving for vacation. I would have never done what Venom did but that was one good solution. I would have been worried about recycling my tank.

O.P. do you have acess to anyone that can feed them while your gone maybe?

i just got back from a 7-day vacation, last night. my son stayed over to housesit our two dogs. i did not want to burden him with feeding 3 tanks of fish, so i fed them plenty of food several days prior to my departure. I got back and they're all fine. i don't like doing this, but i don't have a choice and i'd prefer to not have someone else feed my fish. they can handle it.
