Going to pick up shortnose gars tomorrow...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks! I'm gonna keep them in the 55g for a while, getting them nice and fattened up and adding a few inches to them. Then I'll pick the best couple to move to my big tank. I might end up getting rid of the others once I do that... ;);)

I'm thinking about adding some sand or gravel to the bottom of the tank. I think they're just going to stay all washed out if I don't, and not really get any good coloring going. But we'll see what they look like after a few days.

They've already destroyed all those feeders I put in there. I thought the comets might be too big for them, but they had to have eaten at least 3 each....:D

The sunfish/bluegill are pretty cool too, although kinda stressed out. I need to add a little more cover to the tank. Hopefully I can do that this weekend.

Great looking fish! I bet they'll be eyeing your sunfish soon :)

My new shortnose are currently only eating feeders. My two florida gar, which are around 11-12 inches each, will eat feeders, freeze dried krill, market shrimp, and one of them will even eat pellets as well.

You should be able to get them eating other foods. I found the easiest to use was fd krill, because it was orange like the feeders, and floated at the top, where the gar seem to like to feed more.

Wow congratz! I might order as well if the shipping is right this time.

It should be now. He's committed to doing it right, and he showed me his new supplies while I was there. He's got oxygen, better bags, and styrofoam containers now.
