I just got a small gold nugget, and its the second day now and he's still not eating! I tried veg, pellets, bloodworms - everything! He's hidden under my juwel filter and its difficult to get food to him, but even if there is food near him he still wont touch it. what should i do?why wont he eat?when he did come up to the glass i could see that his stomach was hollow, kind of sunken in i think they didnt feed him when they sent him to me by post.im worried now.

sunken stomaches are a bad sign. I usually will look past plecos that exhibit that when shopping for them. How long ago did you get the fish?

I only got him yesterday morning - from wildwoods

do you have wood in the tank? sunken is not good, but its not hopeless. make sure there is wood, keep up with the blood worms, that got my l330. also what worked was soaking zucc in garlic. also try keepin the lights off to make him feel more comfortable. they are nocturnal and it can take sometime to get them to eat during the day. u can try mussels as well

just put in a slice of zucchini, i blanched it to keep it down, hopefully he will eat it. i did put some lettuce in which looked like it had been nibbled, but can't be sure as i have angels and clown loaches and guppies in the tank. well, I'll try feeding him bloodworms tomorrow morning and see if he eats tht, will also try shell fish as I have some of that too.might e-mail wildwoods to ask them what they were feeding him before i got him to see if he will eat then. i really hope he starts to eat. will try to rub some garlic on the bloodworms tomorrow.

I just took a water test and these are my stats:

nitrate: 0

nitrite: 0.25

ammonia: 0

pH: 7.8

could it have anything to do with my water chemistry?

i'm worried that he may die, tomorrow i will definitely try this garlic thing. i forgotto say that he did come out for a couple of minutes last night and was moving around the glass - but then my mum came into my room and he went back under the filter. this is my first time in trying to have a L plec...im worried.

I've just purchased some algae sheets online, hopefully when they arrive if he is still alive he will eat them...

well i tried some blanched zucchini and he still didnt eat it overnight, i soaked it in garlic too...i dont know what to do anymore. tried to give him jellied daphnia this morning but he just nudged away from it and let the angels eat it instead.anyone got any other solutions?

I would say that it will not live. In my experience, gold nuggets are notorious for the sunken bellied problem. Most of the ones I have seen come into the pet store like that(when i was there) did not live. Wood, warmth, well oxygenated water and a treatment for parasites (internal) is what I recommend.
