I would say that it will not live. In my experience, gold nuggets are notorious for the sunken bellied problem. Most of the ones I have seen come into the pet store like that(when i was there) did not live. Wood, warmth, well oxygenated water and a treatment for parasites (internal) is what I recommend.

noooooooo don't say that!!! maybe he had a sunken belly coz they didnt feed him before he got shipped to me. i had to catch him with a net to look at his belly, so i made him even more stressed...:irked: but his belly had gone from curved inwards to being flat, so maybe he ate something...what does it mean when they have sunken bellies, that they have an internal bacter or that they haven't been fed?i'm new to this, but i thought it was normal that his belly looked like that coz they sent him to me by post...

hey guess what i came back from uni today and he ate the slice of zuchini i left in the tank for a few days, he ate the inside bit!!!!!!!! soooooooooooooooooooo happpppppppppy

i left that peice of zucchini in the clip becoz i thought maybe he hasnt finished with it yet, then when i came back into my room i saw that he had started eating part of the skin too! maybe he was waiting for it to reallllly soften up for a few days. i did blanch it, but as long as he's eating now,im just happy! but im unsure as what to feed him now that he's eating again. should i keep on feeding different tyes of veg on that clip, (put a piece of veg in there in case he doesn't get enough) or should I move him to a qt tank and I know he will get the meat I give him (but this might upset him again, he looks settled now) because when I feed bloodworms etc the angels and guppies are so fast, but there is some thats left over, he's too shy to eat when im in the room. so where do i go from here?

he will become less shy as het gets bigger and more comfortable in that tank. keep giving him zucc. and do you have any wood in the tank?

no, I don't. should I buy some to put in there?I've never had any wood in any tanks before, how do do this?i've seen some for sale, mini ones im my lfs called bogwood. is this what i need?

the bog wood may release an undesirable amount of tannens (sp) and make your water tan to brown. other than lowering your ph a bit its mainly just gonna change the look of your tank. i purchase driftwood that is connected to a peice of slate to anchor it. this kind does not do that. usually all places that carry fish carry this type of driftwood. at least in my area. and yes you should have some in there for your gold nugget.

ok, will try and get the driftwood. do i need to soak this or something before i put it in my tank?I think I could tie it to a big rock in my tank, hopfully this will be ok.

yes i would rinse and soak the wood for a bit before adding. bury the slate under your substrate and put a rock on each side to keep the wood from floating. shouldn't take too long for the wood to become water logged and you can remove the rocks if you want.

thats a good idea, i can weigh down the driftwood on each side with the rocks. ok will buy that then soak it for two or three days and add it to the tank. thanks a lot for all the help!
