NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

a 5 gal is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too small for a goldfish of anykind

unless you want it to suffer and die prematurely.

:iagree: 100%,pretty much any goldfish is going to need at least 20gal.They all are messy little suckers and I wouldn't put any other fish in there either.Goldfish do better by themselves

i think what im going to do is get her a 20 gallon tank and fill it with small tropical fish. like some panda cory but ill have to think about what else to put in it. she did say she liked the little corry cats and platys.

but some species of gf such as the pearl scale dislike cold water and prefer warmer water

This is not true. All the fancy goldfish are the same species, just different breeds like with dogs. Pearl scale will do just fine in the same water as other breeds.

If you are going to set up a community be careful with the panda corydoras, I find that they prefer a well established tank and are actually pretty sensitive.

well here is my first 20g tank i used to have before until now that I have my 90g tank hope it might give u an idea

20g, 5 bandit corys, 5 serpae tetras, a flame dwarf gourami, 5 siver hatchets, and 3 giant danios. cheap, hardy, easy to care for, and active.
