Gold managuense update

I have a confession to make! These didn't come from petsmart. They came from a store in my area that gets shipments from the Czechs. They were expensive and I could only afford a couple a week. Everyone was asking where I got them as they wanted one or two as pets but I wanted to breed them and keep them long term and I knew I needed as many as I could get so I directed them in the wrong direction. Sorry to everyone but in the long run it worked. I ended up getting all of them, 9 in total. I now of a breeding pair and working on my second pair. Soon I hope to distribute as many as I can once they reach that size. My apologies to everyone!

I have a gold morph jag female here in regina. She is with a normal male in a 100g with a couple of bichir.

FYI - the Czech Republic is one of THE largest producers of hybrid fish in the world, including cichlids, and is a less trustworthy source than Petsmart.



Also, you stated that everyone was asking where you got these fish, yet no one on MFK would have ever known that you had them had you not posted pics months back. Even then, no one seemed overly interested when you originally did post pics, nor was anyone asking you where you purchased them.

Ironically enough, the main supplier of Petsmart (Segrest Farms) does in fact have gold managuense - maybe they got theirs from the Czech Republic as well?
 
Again these are not hybrids. I don't know why you keep referring them as this. And I was told to post them on mfk from local members so everyone could see them. And I did have a lot of responses about them, they were private messages.
If you don't like them then move on and don't respond to this thread. Lots of people here seem to like them except you.

i,ve seen gold managuense for sale here in the uk before and the only sell for the same price as the normal coloured ones so i don't think they are very rare.
 
I think that you need to re-read my previous comments. I never said that your fish were hybrids, nor did I say that I didn't like them.



Do I question cichlids sourced from known producers of hybrids, such as Segrest Farms, and/or the Czech Republic? Your damn right I do, as would any sensible person who has been in this hobby for as long as I have.

The reality is you don't have the slightest clue as to the genetic make up of these fish, anymore than the LFS that sold them to you.
 
Gary RD is right, there is no way know what they are forsure IMO chances are they are a hybrid, the only place in the GTA that can be trusted when it comes to sa/ca is Bob at Aqua tropics. Still think they are cool looking fish.

Thats why I like ordering from Gage,Rapps,Dan, pay a little more but I know exactly what I am getting. Toronto area sucks for Ca/sa
