Gold Morph Jack Dempsey?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
definitely not a gold morph JD, the markings in the first picture are a dead giveaway - and the rest of the pictures confirm it. and I agree, one thread could have answered all of your questions instead of 10 different ones lol

Sorry for all the confusion I've been causing other forums encourage for threads and I'm to to MFK. I will try to Improve.

I agree w/ Duane on background colors. I recently was trying out a black background on my 150g. I had a 3D, but it bowed so much, smaller fish got trapped back there.
Anyway, once I added the dark background all the fish darkened up. While I like the look of the tank, the colors of the fish are not as attractive.
But it's not all of them, it seemed to vary by species. Like my rainbow darkened up while my robertsoni looks the same regardless of background.

dude, that's a BIGASS Firemouth

Nice full tank shots Steve.
As Frank has pointed out it shows just how big some of your fish are.
The astyanax look chunky and the rostratus looks a decent size too.
If your robertsoni is around 10 inches, those astyanax must be approaching 6 or 7 inches.
What species are they again Steve? Are they bimaculatus? I wouldn't expect astyanax mexicana to get quite that big.

There is a cenote (Cristal) just south of Tulum, on the west side of the highway, where some of the Astyanax are easily 6"-7", I don't know if its the lack of cichlids (there were only live bearers and tetras) or some other reason, but they were the largest Astyanax I'd seen in the area. A friend on mine in Milwaukee, has some large ones like in cichlidfish's photos, those are very impressive.

The cenote on the other side of the highway (Escondido) had Cribroheros robertsoni.

For anyone wanting to see tetras, and cichlids in nature these are easily accessible spots, just outside of Cancun, and a real eye opener into the kind of space our fish are accustomed to.
