and what is the other big one to the left of the Robertsoni above the java fern ?

screw it, can u just list the whole stock? lol

That is c. Rostratum.

List:

1 c. Rostratum
1 c Robertsoni
1 HRP
1 Rainbow
2 h. deppii f1
1 salvini
1 t. Pasionis
2 t. Mixteco blue
4 t. Meeki
5 astyanax bimculatus

For now. Going to make some changes. I would like to breed the deppii, but I have to move them to do that. Planning on giving them a 55g. The HRP and rainbow minght go.

The tank will become a thorichthys and cribroheros tank mostly.

Nice full tank shots Steve.
As Frank has pointed out it shows just how big some of your fish are.
The astyanax look chunky and the rostratus looks a decent size too.
If your robertsoni is around 10 inches, those astyanax must be approaching 6 or 7 inches.
What species are they again Steve? Are they bimaculatus? I wouldn't expect astyanax mexicana to get quite that big.

Yes they are bimculatus and they biggest female is probably pushing 7". The smallest is still around 4", which hasn't grown like the others. Not sure why. They are more of a SA tetra, but I believe their range extends into Panama or southern CA. Sometimes I'm on the fence in keeping those too, because they nip cichld fins. Especially the larger fish. The little ones are too fast and feisty.

There is a cenote (Cristal) just south of Tulum, on the west side of the highway, where some of the Astyanax are easily 6"-7", I don't know if its the lack of cichlids (there were only live bearers and tetras) or some other reason, but they were the largest Astyanax I'd seen in the area. A friend on mine in Milwaukee, has some large ones like in cichlidfish's photos, those are very impressive.

The cenote on the other side of the highway (Escondido) had Cribroheros robertsoni.

For anyone wanting to see tetras, and cichlids in nature these are easily accessible spots, just outside of Cancun, and a real eye opener into the kind of space our fish are accustomed to.

I've wanted astyanax mexicanus for a long time now. I understand they are much more aggressive than bimculatus, so not sure what their behavior would be like in the aquarium.
I need to go to that cenote. I have a timeshare not too far away :)

That's a good goal.
You can't beat the c/a eartheaters for me.
Social, attractive and fascinating to keep.
