Just found my gold nugget pleco dead after about 3 months. He is in a 90g with lots of aeration. I have been treating the tank for ick with salt. I am guessing thats what killed him.
I feel your pain. I just lost mine last week. It was fine in the morning and dead by noon. I've heard they aren't the hardiest plecos, but I'll probably get another one anyway. I love the way they look.
i bought a gold nugget a couple months ago. it was doing really well for about 6 weeks and then one morning when i woke up i just noticed it laying on the gravel on its back dead. it was in a 29g grow out tank with only a german blue ram. no clue what the cause could have been. sometimes these things just happen.
It is? I wasn't aware of that. What purpose does that serve?
If the OP had asked had asked a question, like what could have been the cause (apart from supposed 'ich')? Then I could have replied:
Gold nuggets are notorious for being difficult to keep alive during the early stages, especially when small. More often than not the LFS can't feed them properly so they being to deteriorate. They are quite specialised eaters with very fine rake like teeth and often find it difficult to find enough food. They also have very long intestinal tracts and a small stomach meaning they really require constant food sources for grazing. All of which constitutes a sensitive fish in the early stages of aquarium life.
I had him for 3 months. He ate mostly drift wood and algae pellets. He was about 3 inches big. Was more active then normal the past 2 weeks then tonight I found him more or less just floating around on the bottom.
Sorry you cant understand that this is a social forum matt and people like to share their experiences with fish. Next time dont look.
