Nice looking tank and fish. Silver Dollars make great dithers for larger cichlids.

3 jaguar cichlids (one @ 2", 2 @ 1")
2 *male* Jack Dempsies @ 3.5"
1 gold saum (might be male) @ 3.5"
3 Jurupari (sp) @ 2"

This stock list in a 55 gal is an accident waiting to happen... if you keep waiting, it will happen. If you are proactive and make some changes now, you might save a few fish a lot of abuse.

Dempseys and Saums (in my experiencce) make decent tankmates. Saums are usually a little tougher on a 'pound per pound' scale. I have had a lot of luck keeping a female of one with a male of the other (male JD, female GT, or vise versa). As a side note I've never had the two hybridize either.

In my opinion, having 'enough' hiding spots will not solve anything for you. The problem is too much aggression, not too few hiding places. Also as your fish grow, so does your overall amount of aggression. Also as those baby Jags grow, your JD & GT are in for some trouble.

I suggest a complete reorganization of your stock list. It looks like you either got some real bad advice or failed to follow the good advice you received.

Things are much better today. I moved the 2nd male Jack Dempsey back to his original aquarium. I think the Jack Dempsey is currently the one dominant male of the aquarium. He occasionally will flare up at the GS, but for the most part they leave each other alone and are both swimming around.
