lfs has 1 for $100 at about 3-4". Is this a true variant and could you mix with another nice fish to get decent flowerhorns???

why would you want to spend a 100 bucks on a fish then try to breed it down to a flowerhorn?

Gold trimaculatus IS a flowerhorn. Much like a red texas and purple rose queen it's hybridized and line bred. I had one for a while few years ago and can tell you that they grow into quite pretty adults but still not worth $100 in my honest opinion

Interesting... I did not know that. I am pretty sure however that the one I had was a hybrid. I would also tend to think that the fish questioned in this thread is a hybrid as well. It would be great if we could get some pictures

Ill try to get that pic. Main man wasnt there to ask so thats why I asked. Did a search but didnt see anything.

funny thing is, it didnt look golden like you would think.

As far as mixing, my 1st thought was to breed with reg trimac. Hybrids are always a 2nd option with me. I luv my texas/festae mix as did others I sold them too.
