Gold wolf, red wolf, or Black

my LFS have these guys and I thought of getting one.. which one is more active? because I’ve seen some that just sit like a log.

Golds are more active.

Black wolf is the coolest looking (mini aimara) imo.
Gold is most active and tolerates other wolves.
Red is most mellow with other fish and more active than black, less than gold.

Can you keep a small black with a bigger gold? Or bigger red?

I wouldn’t recommend it. I haven’t kept any, but they generally will not play nice with other wolves. Any wolf is typically a solo fish unless you have a huge tank. Part of why red wolf fish can’t be bred in captivity is because of how aggressive they are with other wolves.
Any combo probably will just end up with one larger wolf.
