Golden Chinese Algae Eater in my 125g?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
CAEs in my area are getting uncommon in these days, even the standard colored ones! Same thing with the convicts. I don't mind to have a CAE in my tank as in the past I had a 5" CAE in my "feeder" community tank (with feeder guppies, red rosies and gambusia) and never had any problems.

I think he'll be staying in my 55g now.

I had a better reply but it got lost when I accidentally backspaced. Anyway, here's an update on the banana:

It's kind of a struggle to keep him from getting skinny!

golden ones are nice, ive had my normal CAE for almost 3 years

6 inches nice and fat

he too loves grabbing on to my african cichlids but ive never had much of a problem \

my compressicep recently put him in his place haha

theyre nice fish, but i feel like mine has out-grown the whole algae eating thing

i dk what it is hes eating but between him and my bn pleco i still have a tank full of alage

Right. I don't think of them as algae eaters. They're omnivorous opportunists with a carnivorous flare.

Well, yeah, but I expect him to be a SOB, so it's all good. :)

My regular colored one was a jerk. He sucked on everything. I finally gave him away. On the other hand.... I have a Golden who is bigger than the regular one was. She never bothers anyone. I have never seen her suck on anything or anyone. (aside from her wood and rock) Funny, I was buying her as a clown loach from someone who met me. They guy was on his way into town from 3 hours away, and tho he couldn't send pics.... I trusted him. As soon as I realized it wasn't a clown, I couldn't just give her back to the guy... so I have her in the 150. Even the RTC doesn't bother her.

Oh, wow. That's a long drive for a GCAE! Glad she's well-behaved at least. Did you pay the guy or just slap him and take the fish?
