My Golden Dojo Loach is staying near the surface of the tank, just kind of floating, which is not normal behavior for him. His skin appears irritated, and he is lethargic. He will still swim around occasionally.

I have attached a picture.

Anyone have experience with these fish? Treating them? I've treated other fish for ich before, but I understand these are sensitive to some ich meds.

I would appreciate any help.

The tank is cycled, the temp is 72, the substrate is pool sand, the tankmates are Goldfish, 40 gallons, two Ryukin, the one Loach. The one problem with the tank lately has been a case of greenwater algae. I've been changing water out to treat it. No chemicals added.

I really hate to say it but I think I would just put it out of misery. I have never seen a dojo that looked like that. If it is ick they you have to make sure the other fish don't have it. If the other fish do have it you can turn your temp up on the tank. Ick does not like warm temps. I keep my tanks between 78-80 and I have no problem with disease. Some might think that is too warm but it works for me.

Doesn't look like ich, can't help much beyond it's clearly showing as red patches on his skin. Could be something in the water, what are the parameters of the tank besides temp? Ammonia, pH, nitrite, nitrate, etc.?
Raising the temp is not such a good idea with goldfish. BTW, best not to mix cool and tropical fish like that.. Goldfish will react with stress to the heat and could create a whole new mess of problems.
Otherwise, having no real idea what you're dealing with, I would do a decent WC (25%-40%) and throw in a big dose of NovAqua+. Unfortunately that is my only treatment for loaches when strange things come up :\
Worked more than once. Good luck!
