I just went to an aquarium store and one of the fish I saw there was a golden dorado so I was just curious what are all the possible tankmates for one im not saying im getting one just want to know The tank mate possibilities . PS the owner wasnt very helpful he just sat back and watched his vietnamese tv shows and when I went for information so he just started yammering about false information on fish lol.

Really?....what about the three page dorado thread that you already have going?

No ones giving me any good info on that other page and as I said above the guy at the aquarium store gave me horrible info so Im trying the characin page because I would think this page has all the characin experts on it.

Just got back from checking the other thread and you're right...there was a bit of advice offered but not much useable information.
Well I'm no expert but I am experienced in keeping dorados and they are a tremendous fish. They are very bold and active even from a young age and they soon impose their will on most other fish in the tank,I've had one that would snatch food from other fishes mouths and then have the nerve to chase them around.I would suggest some hardy semi aggressive cichlids as tank mates but the bigger the dorado gets the less difference it will make what else is in with them.

Ya your right the guy at the aquarium store did say brycons can be kept with them and armoured catfish but what he also said that i cant tell will work is that he said you can keep them with adult black devil catfish but I think the last ones a hit or miss.

Not sure what a black devil catfish is but brycon a are actually related to the dorado and some species look very much like them.Golden Dorado are capable of reaching over three feet in length.

Can be kept with cichlas, dats, red tail brrycon species, arrows, catfish, plecos....etc. they got to be big enough not to get bullied. Even then it depends on the fish. It may bully larger fish. Usually a solitary fish in the end due to aggression. Need a 500 plus gallon tank with high flow to keep.

No prob....I hope this helped. But at the same time I hope you don't get a dorado. It seems maybe more that you cannot handle this fish from prior posts. No offense. Get a red wolf or a belly crawler and you'll be happy. A dorado may give you more problems than you want. It'll be bad for you and the fish. Not to discourage you but to be honest. I understand your psych problem and such. Not gonna pick on you cause it happened to me and it sucks. If you need help getting info on some fish your able to realistically keep. The individuals on this forum can direct you.

Ok thanks man Im actually thinking of keeping us native fish instead which are easier like mabey a gar or walleye or an easier predatory fish but I really like the red wolf idea they are pretty cool and nice looking.
