Hi everyone, Im really new to monster fish. Am interested in getting dorado as well as some tiger fish. I wont be placing it in an aquarium as my current house have no space. So i decided to put these fishes with my Koi fish in a 150"Length, 118''Width, 33''Depth pond.

My koi fish size is around 11-12inches, the only one largest is around 16".

Dorado that my local fish store sell is around 6"

Tiger fish is around 4" (Cant really differentiate them, the store owner also cant tell)

So my concern is... can these monster fish get along with koi fish? Mainly dorado..

The other alternative which is highly unlike which is move away my parents furniture=_=. In that case, I will be buying a 60",12",12" tank for 1 Dorado and 2 ATF.

Thanks alot in advance!! Your time is much appreciated!

Although you will have members telling you that mixing cold water & tropical fish can't mix. I had 2 dorados with with koi before without problems. Dorados grew to 16"-18" and koi 15". Now I have an army with koi with no problems other than when army dines on a sunny, the koi appears upset and will swim adjacent to it bumping into the army.

Ahhh, thanks alot for your reply! Its so so appreciated! Wow an army?? How many is that?

What im actually worry the most is pathogen or bacteria infection on Koi..

Because prior to this, I actually feed my snakehead with guppies and gold fish feeder pouring in along with the water which is most likely contaminated.

Im aware that fish is most likely to be sick/infected if they are stress or lost their protection coat or injured.

So my concern lies with the introduction of a fast and sometimes seems to be aggresive fish like dorado will stress my Koi or might actually cause injuries which lead to infection.

Is there any tips to deal with all the bad pathogen/bacteria without harming the good one? (My dad spent a fortune on the natural bio filter system) Thats the last thing I want to interfere with.

Once again! Thanks to everyone!!

Keep water temp up, and might have problems after they gain some size, or fin nipping- but a 60x12x12 is super freaking small for these fish. If i were you I'd get rid of the koi but that's just me

Oh my.. sorry its was 60x25x25. Right now tank size is not much a problem as my ideal option is for them to live outside in the pond.

Hmm I think worse come to worst, I'll give up on dorado and get a gar instead. Gar appear to be more friendly to me.

This is what I planned so far, get 2 VATF(3'') and 1 Gar(4'') and train them into accepting pellet. When they reach around 7-8'', I will release them to the pond and perhaps add one 5-6'' dorado.

How's the current in the pond? ATF's require an extremely high amount of current which I'm pretty sure koi won't appreciate at all. Even though I've seen ATF's in low current tanks, they don't seem to do as well and become extremely skittish. Also what's the temp in the pond? These guys like it warm! Around the low to mid 80's. This all applies to the dorado as well except dorados can be true terrors. I hear more stories about them being killers than I do of them being docile.

Koi like currents my koi pond has TPRs create more current under the water surface. More current means more exercise and muscle building for the fish. Tprs are Tangential Pond Returns. Used to increase currents and to direct waste to the BD, or bottom drain. Now compatibility, that's a subject I'm not familiar with...

But how powerful of a current? ATF's and dorados live in the extremely turbulent parts of the rivers including the white rapid parts. I don't know much about koi but would they be able to handle that much?

Imo those koi would become chew toys for the tigerfish and dorado. dorado are mean ass hell. Imo koi would foul up the water unless you got wet/dry and good circulation
