Dorados only seem to work if there is a large, non-aggressive 'alpha' fish to play the role of peacekeeper in the tank. If one of the dorados can feel like it's the boss, it will result in dead fish.
DB junkie probably has the most experience with comming Salminus on the board, maybe he'll chime in.
And sometimes even that won't work, I tried this with a 45cm arowana (lei). The 20cm dorado left the aro and my 30cm NTT well enough alone but beat the crap out of everything else, including some 25cm tats.
I loved the franky but if I'm ever going to try and com another dorado it's got to be a brassy...good luck finding one of those in Sweden.
From what I gather, yes, they are better candidates for com tanks. Are brassy less destructive than the more common franky?
We don't really know yet, they haven't been kept enough, only DB has true known brassies, others were never proven. To be or not to be. And he states with frankies it's luck of the draw, but both his brassies keep to there selves for the most part. However, it can be like aimaras, they were kept very rarely once upon a time, and built a bad rep in that time, more recently they've been being comm more often and have proven to be like other wolves, you get your nasty ones and you get your good ones, but as of lately, it seems like other wolves they can be comm for the most part. It could be the opposite, and DB could have well behaved ones and you could get a brassie that seems possessed. If it's a brassy and you have future plans for atleast an 8'x4' then I'd say go for it.Are brassy less destructive than the more common franky?
I am tempted by a good size (10 inches) dorado that looks more like brassy; will see if I can get some pics later this week.
