hmoobvwj: “I just got two around 7"-8" from a fellow member on here and is currently housing them with my 7"-8" cichlas”

do a little re-examination on this one.........i am pretty certain that the pair has been split.

i kept one from about 12ish inches until it reached about 15ish really fat inches. if you do not have a huge tank ready, look elsewhere for fish. the dorado is not a friendly community fish its whole life. the bigger they get, the meaner they get.

I agree with you on this, It is very aggressive and bully anyone that its size or smaller, since it is a fast swimmer so its quite quick to get away too but will bully. It also aggressive eater and will take food in until its mouth can't close. Mine grown 6" in a month :(. So really I don't know what fish can dorado stay with or not get bully by it. Mine is at 15" now.

i agree, Dorado is a tough community fish, and i wouldnt be worried about the Dorado getting hurt by the ATF.... the ATF will most likely lose for sure .... they are relentless and will not stop badgering a fish, if the fish fights back, the Dorado gets even more aggressive until the fish submits or is killed.... that being said i do have a 14-15 inch Dorado living peacefully with GATF's a VATF, Armatus and Datnoids.... it was scary in the beginning, Dorado chasing relentlessly, but i stuck it out, and after about 8 months everybody is doing great.... so in general it is a very tough combo, however there are miracles! :)

It still boggles my mind that you've succeeded with that combo. I want to try it but I'm too much of a chicken to do it!

Scientific Names:

Salminus maxillosus
Salminus hilarii
Salminus brasiliensis

salminus maxillosus is brasiliensis, salminus maxillosus was the original name which was later then changed to
brasiliensis. but good work non the less.

just wanted to add besides the brasiliensis and hilarii there's also affinis and franciscanus and theyre all a little bit
different just to also.

I've noticed recently my brasi is getting battered by somebody in my tank at I just can't figure out whom.. My Mala also has scales missing.. The only culprit I can deduce is my channa pleuro at around 14-15".. Before I sold my gold arowana, she ruled the tank absolutely. Dorado wouldn't even dare swim towards her direction while harassing all other inhabitants.
