Hi,

I just torn myself away from buying a female Golden FH.
It was priced at 49.99, but I asked for a deal of $40 and got OK'd after a while.

She was verified a female by the shop owner, and was VERY aggressive (may seem immature of me, but I like it).

She was about 6".

For visual reference, she looked pretty much like this.

She was very worth $40 for me, but I decided to do some research first and go back tomorrow.

1. Just wondering if this is a good market value.

2. Can it thrive in an 80G along with a 4" rainbow shark and a colony of malaysian trumpet snails? .. Would she eat the snails?

3. I have a mixture of frozen seafood (mussels, shrimp, squid, octopus) along with freeze dried krill and clean earthworms for treats..
Would this make a good diet?

Sharing of information is always appreciated!

Honestly, its a fader. And from what I know, you can get better fish at a better price even if your in Canada. As far as that shark goes, it is going to be murdered soon. :D

I can get a picture tomorrow, but it honestly looks like the one in the picture above.

I'm very drawn to the FH personality, I've also read that females tend to be more aggressive.

They also had a nice looking 6" Midas for $20 but he/she was rather too nice for me.

I might just have to wait until next week and take the train for 30 minutes to a store that specializes in FH, the guy said they had a bunch of 9"-10" inchers for $30.

Waiting sucks, but it's probably for the best I think.. Just hope they have a nice one there for me.

I will also have to sell my rainbow shark and amazon sword because I realize that they will be messed up by whatever fish I get. ;)

Would love to hear answers to my questions guys, always appreciated

Hmm, 9"-10" fish for that cheap then I wouldn't expect much out of it at all to be honest. A good flowerhorn takes patience...seriously. :)

Yeah patience, Plus when you find THAT fish, you will appreciate it much more than a fish you just acquire. If you are looking, you will find something you fall in love with and you will be glad that you waited.
If your willing to put out a bit more money for shipping fees I would suggest Chonburiman on Aquabid.com. He has a transhipper in Canada and excellent quality fish at great prices. There are other vendors so look around. Good luck on your hunt, Im sure you will find a fish you love.

Thanks for the replies,
I'm very new to the FH's and all your inputs are appreciated.

To be honest, I know that a 9", 10", 11" Flowerhorns at $30 are dirt cheap,
and probably are Trimacs/Low grades (or I'm expecting).

I know that Golden Monkeys, Red Dragons and Kamfas are real nice,
but on my current budget I can't afford these luxuries that you guys enjoy :irked: My tank's got a black background, so a real expensive/more attractive one would be wasted there anyway I guess.

I'm just looking for a big personable fish for an empty 80G who will hate me through the glass and make me laugh as I take good care of him ;)

Already found a buyer for my rainbow shark and amazon sword, things are looking good.

I also spoke to the owner of the FH specialty shop on the phone, he assures me he has what I'm looking for at the price and that he will cut me a discount to make my travel worth it.

Very excited here to get one soon

Hopefully will turn out good. Random fish stores that just happen to have flowerhorn are normally no good but if they actually know their stuff you might happen across one thats nice for a decent price.

My local store, the owner ordered some flowerhorn from Thailand awhile back 2 of which he kept. He told me he would sale me one of them for $70, he said it was a kamalau or kamfamalau. It looks really nice.
