I called my LFS ( called cause it takes me an hour to get there) about some cat fish, and the guy I talked to knows about my jags( he sold them to me), and he was tellen me about a fish he called a golden Jag. I said it was not exactly the same a regular jag. He ran off the scientific name, but I cant remember what the hell it was. Any of y'all hear of such a thing and if so what did you think of it? He said they were not as agressive as a reg Jag, and a bit smaller.

I'm real tempted to go take a look for myself, they are 2 inches and like $6, but as you can see, my tank is kinda full now. I may make my 200g a jag only tank when it is all said n done. I'm planning on selling my O's, and GT, and putting my JD in my 75 G.

I'd be keeping the 2 jags and the 2 TX in the 200 with the tinfoil barbs and cats.

I don't think the tank would be big enough for 3 jags after they have grown up. I'm trying to plan ahead....but dang I'm tempted! LOL

Thanks, and any pics would be helpfull!!!

they're probably either Parachromis loisellei, Parachromis friedrichsthalli or Parachromis motaguense. any of these sound familiar? P. motaguense is supposed to be from what I've read even more aggressive than jags. they are possibly, inch for inch, the most aggressive of all Parachromis species. the loisellei and friedrichsthalli are both a bit more calm than a jag and I believe the loisellei is the calmest of the 3. each of these 3 species will probably max out around 12" though a motaguense might get just an inch or 2 bigger. :)

My LFS has some motaguense approx 2 inches 7 bucks, they are supposed to be really aggressive. I was tempted to buy 1 but they were too small for my 90 gal (might have been mistaken for lunch) and i have nothing avalable to gor 1 up in.

evilxyardxgnome is correct. There is a gold line bred variety of Parachromis managuense.

no there is a type of jaguar called the golden jag..if you go to rapps site and look at the pics he has one..just really light in color and has no reall markings,..there allright

I don't think Jason is disagreeing that there are not Golden Managuense. From the post it sounds like it was a name other than Managuense. Most of the LFS don't know what the hell they are selling in the first place when it comes to the fish. Sometimes it's all in the name. Both the Loiselle and the Freddy are sometimes given the fancy name "golden jag" just as the easy way of making it stand out from the norm.

There is also another Parachromis species recently discovered in Central America. It looks a lot like a managuense, only with heavy gold coloration in the head and stripes in the back. Some guys who recently came back from there brought some with them. Super aggresive. I saw pictures on another site. Really cool looking fish.

But more than likely if that was recent than the fish is still rare. And if this is just another run of a mill LFS it is probably just the gold variation of the regular Jag. Especially since they are only offering 6 dollars for the fish.
