Golden Jag?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wish I lived where I had LFS that got in good stuff. I had a hard enough time finding regular jags to try to grow for my 150 in oklahoma. :swear: :swear:

Caquetaia is right....I know there is a line bred gold morph of P. managuense however I doubt that's what his lfs is selling. Most of the time if an lfs (around here anyway) is selling something called a "Golden Jag" then it is one of the 3 species I mentioned. Like Caquetaia said lfs will often give a name to a fish that will help sell it. for instance, if the lfs knew what they had were actually friedrichsthalli I doubt that's what they'd sell them as because the average hobbyist that visits lfs probably doesn't know what that is. instead they'll call it a gold jag because more people know what a jag is. then there's also the possibility they have no idea what it is or it could simply be the common name given on their order sheet. I've seen the order sheets from the lfs I used to work at and they have wierd common names for everything. for instance they called C. nanoluteus the "yellow convict" making it sound like a yellow morph of a regular convict but that's not what it is. if they had ordered any of those without my working there they would have sold them off as "yellow convicts". :)

I'll have to call that guy at the lfs again and ask him the scientific name. I have to admit I'm REAL bad on scientific name. I only do the common names. I guess I'll have to get over that! LOL

I'll post again when I find out what the heck it is, and solve this mystery!
Thanks to All

I called the LFS and Jason_S was correct! It is a Parachromis friedrichsthalli! So what do Ya'll think of them cookies? He said it would get to be 10" or so, and was not as agressive as a Jag.

So there ya have it, now I need to take a good look at them, as I know nothing else about them! LOL!!!

Thanks to ya all so much!

Golden Jags are pretty common,i prefer the normal darker jag(much better looking)other than color there is no difference, they grow the same size, and are just as aggressive.

I'd get them for sure but that's just me. they're very similar to jags though not quite as aggressive and they won't get nearly as big. a 75 gallon would be fantastic for a breeding pair.
