I'm guessing hatcheries would be the only place you could find them. They wouldn't make it in the wild, to easy for predators to see.
You can find them in places other than in a hatchery. How did the hatchery get them then? They make it in the wild, I see them around here sometimes, they just don't stock many. I have fished for them plenty of times and they know they can be seen, which makes it easier to find them, but the fish is also more aware of its surroundings making it harder to get a strike. imo
I have only caught one in my life it was around 22''.

The hatchery where I worked has some. Some of them are pretty big

ive kept rainbow trout, since golden trout are just a color morph i would say they cant be any harder, i had them in a 75 gal, with a rena xp4 and aqua clear 70 powerhead with a huge whisper air pump pumping in to both the the power head and large air stone. out of the three rainbows caught while ice fishing two of the three made it and were extreamly aggresive. loved watching them go on a feeding freenzy everytime i put food in the tank. they lived with some yellow perch, pickeral, and channel cat.

Thats a georgeous fish, but i would never attempt to keep one, something that great looking deserves its freedom. :)

A few days ago, we were in Rainbowhead Farms of West Virginia and sells live Golden Rainbow Trout for recreation or wholesome family food. I saw this type of Golden Rainbow trout first time. It is a pale goldfish rainbow trout raised as a novelty for fisherman.
