Goldfish from the fair

It's nice to know some countries such as Switzerland and Romania have laws against placing goldfish in fishbowls effectively curbing the so-called "goldfish in fairs". If only other countries emulate what the abovementioned ones did.

As much as I know a lot of people dislike it, like some of the members mentioned, it's what got them started in the hobby. It's kind of a double edge sword. While it sucks that they're giving away fish that will out grow any bowl, it can spark interest in this hobby. Bettas might be a better prize, but they cost more.

I was able to keep a goldfish from the fair for a number of years.

Plus, to play devil's advocate, people would be up in arms if you were buying kittens and puppies for animal food, but not if they were going to marginal homes. So...yeah. Imo feeding fish to fish seems more barbaric to me than exchanging the same fish for a pet. A large number of the wild fish collected for our hobby die during transport, but we don't care about those right?

Like I said, I'm playing devil's advocate. I feed fish to fish all the time. I also have an idea of how long feeder fish are expected to live without chemical treatment.

My roomate won't even think about getting a tank. Apparently when he was younger he won a gold fish. He was telling me that he kept it in a the bag for a long time. Yes, in the bag it came in. He never fed it and obviously it died. So now he doesn't want to keep fish. I blame that on Jersey schools, they cant even pump their own gas.

Ive seen lizards in cages that could be won at my fair. I think they stopped doing it cause every time i walked by all the lizards were dead. Not sure what kind they were. I remember winning bettas a long time ago when i was little.
