Robb, I wish I can borrow yours because my watonai and fantail are not doing their job effectively at consuming the guppies in my pond.

I actually had to set up a 50 gallon pond from Home Depot to put the Guppies in because the guppies were getting consumed faster than the Mollies.

I've had a few dumb goldfish and a few great goldfish. My mom's last fish was a common and he was like an Oscar. He'd follow her around and swim at the glass begging for food. And he was very aggressive and spunky. So I'd say that unless you've kept many mature goldfish, you really can't rule out good personality as a trait. Some goldfish are very interactive and spunky. You just have to pick out the watchful, quick specimen from the tank and grow it out. They can be great wet-pets, rivaling cichlids in behavior and beauty. They can also be inbred, slow and stupid. It's a fish-by-fish process, like Labrador Retrievers. Some are absolutely retarded at birth and some are super keen. Pick of the litter, pick of the spawn.

i dnt really adore them but i did hav one which i got in a pack of feeders and unknowingly gave away last time saw it at my aunt it has the fins of a koi and looks like one but no barbels i would hav loved to raise tht as a monster =[

i just loooooooove gold fishes. although i dnt have any at present but i am planing to set up a gold fish tank soon. they jus look so amazing. i dont know why many mfkers have labelled them as feeders. every fish is food for some other fish or animal. in that case thel all are feeders.

kida dumb, no personality, sorta ugly, and too peaceful

have you raised any goldfish yourself to say they have no personality??

many goldfish keepers will tell you, and have posted already, goldies can be extremely active, get to know their owners, and will follow you all around a room, come right upto the glass or just chill in a corner watching you. they do the same things as any other fish we all keep, except actively hunt other fish. and even that, ive had a few goldfish over the years that would swallow ANY fish it could get into its mouth, be it goldfish or other species.....

the rarer, and more exotic varieties of goldfish also present some amazing colors and finnage, once again, letting them rival many other fish we keep for looks, and maybe surpass some. when you think about it, theres not many other fish who can have such long, flowing tails as a goldfish, which is quite nice to watch while their swimming around in a large enough tank/pond. when their not inbred or sick, their very graceful swimmers and quite enjoyable to watch as a change to our fast moving, sometimes hard to focus on predators

gold fishes and ugly. you got to be kidding me.
Hey man, to each his own, I personally dislike goldies as well. We are monsterfishkeepers right?

I think just because they are commonly used as feeders, people hate them. This is a really stupid excuse if you ask me.

When I was a kid, I won a goldfish from a fair by tossing a ping pong ball in a cup. Took it home and that goldifsh grew to about 7-8 inches before it died. It was actually killed by a catfish (my fault, I was a beginner). Anyway, that golfish was smart and very responsive. Just as responsive as most cichlids. I dont think alot of you guys ever gave them a chance other than using them as a feeder.

Whenever I see koi ponds I love them, I always loved Koi's. Truth is, they are cool fish if you give them a chance. I dont know much about the varieties but maybe one day I will look into it. In my opinion goldfish arent as bad you think. I dont even feed my fish feeders anymore cause I think its cruel.

They get big, theyre smart and they live long. For the ones saying if they are smart enough not to get eaten, how about we throw you in with some hungry lions and see if you are smart.
