Goldfish hating.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just read this thread and have a mental list of people I'm not going to acknowledge on here, not because of the opinions these individuals had, but because they had no reason or explanation for having them beyond ignorance and illiteracy, and expressed said opinions obnoxiously multiple times without thought or consideration to the posts they were replying to. Congratulations morons of MFK, now we all know who you are.

I'm not a fan of goldfish, mostly because the strains I find appealing are incredibly fragile, rife with health problems, and I don't want to deal with the issues Lupin has mentioned here that he's had to address with his fish, it's just not something I want to deal with. Frankly they aren't even good feeders from a nutritional standpoint, they're like pork rinds for predators.

That being said, goldfish can be interesting, some are beautiful, and I have a lot of respect for the people who have the wherewithall to keep up with them, but it's just not for me.

Ive never really thought of Goldfish in a negative or positive way. Most have the potential to be very beautiful, but using them as feeders is both bad for the Goldfish (Obviously) and for the consumer, as they have little nutritional value and if anything; unheathly.

agreed and using gold fish as feeds greatly increases the chance to introduce disease to your tank as they are usually kept in high density tanks.

I occasionally use comets as feeders and I usually get about twice as many as I plan on feeding. I'll pick out some to keep and I'll add them to my pond. I'm not a fan of the really fancy goldies but I enjoy the ones that are still shaped like a fish and have interesting patterns.

Personally I like Goldfish. But I pretty much like the Common and Comet varieties...I like as close to wild-type as possible. That's with everything...thats why I don't have a dog with mop-like fur and a short nose. I have a sleek Greyhound mix :D

If I were to be able to do as I would like to now, and in 20 years, have my place of residence busting at the seam with fish, I will most likely have a few Common Goldfish...perhaps in an outdoor pond in the summer, spring, and fall, and in a tank in the winter...or a few in a large tank or pool, etc..

I dont see what separates Goldfish from any other fish in the hobby. Dirty? Maybe, but large Cichlids are, too. So are large Catfish. Common, sure, but really... who's fault is that?
Sorry, when I get going I ramble... but I feel that I got my point across :)

I think what separates them is well the are "common" they are what comes to mind for the average person when you say fish tank or fish bowl. there for since they are common they could not possibly be interesting as people like to have the unusual or the uncommon. I bet if they weren't as common place there would be tons of posts saying you'll never believe the sweet fish i got and then a huge picture of a goldfish.

agreed.

one thing i almost never see with goldfish, them fully maxed out in size. i guess i see a few fairly large ponds ones once in while but i never see upclose fish tank ones.

absolutely nothing wrong with goldfish, even the fancy ones. I go to school for Landscape Design/Architect (specializing in outdoor/indoor ponds). they (goldfish) actually inspired me to study this. I've build several ponds that house many different types of fancy goldies!

Goldfish, in my opinion, do have very interseting personality. and I have to agree with Tuscuttar they arent a good source of protein for any fish you feed them to. also they happen to be one of the most strudest fish to date.

Did I mention that THEY'RE THE CHEAPEST FISH TO KEEP BYE FAR.........LOL!
