I have a 3000 gal outdoor pond. A few weeks ago or so had a large female goldfish die in the pond, this thread had pics of the dead fish, never knew what she died from http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=241914 . Ok well now my other big goldfish in the pond who hung out with this one all the time, has stopped eating about 4-5 days ago. He will take 1 or 2 pellets and eat it but spit it out and just not look at it anymore. He sits at top of water, on the edge under a rock/plants. He isn't gasping for air either. He use to be real active and eat. What should I do? thanks. Oh and also there are 15 or more smaller goldfish in the pond that are very active.

Your fish thats still in the pond is depressed because of the death of the other. You may try replacing it with another large pond fish. This technique seems to help in aquariums. The fish should begin to eat again also.

Probably not depressed that the other is gone. That seems too advanced of an emotion for a fish.
Probably stress from a changed environment though.

Well I guess I should wait then.

What are the water parameters of the pond? The thread you linked with was dated three weeks ago. There is something wrong with your goldfish, not that it is depressed.

ahh, I didn't notice, I thought they were close dates. Bad reader...

Have you netted out the other fish to see if any symptoms that showed up in the other fish are present?
If you notice anything suspicious (bloating or whiteness like in the other thread) quarantine the fish.
Did you recently start feeding the fish new food? Did you change anything about how you maintain the pond with the weeks before the fish death?

I have been doing weekly waterchanges, and vacuuming. I will get some stats on the water asap. And yeah I did say few weeks ago I had another fish die.

ammonia 0, nitrates 0 nitrites 0. did a wc yesterday and vacuum. the fish is still sitting at top, not gasping for air. what should i do? get a 15 gal and put him in it? just put some media from my established 55gal tank in it? what medications do i use?

It's hard to say. I guess you could do that and try an antibiotic. I don't know what else to say. There's no way to know what you fish died from.
I know there's probably no way you would have thought of this, but you should have dissected it and see what's up with the organs.
