Goldfish - The posion meat?!?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey. guppy that's very interesting...I have a couple of friends who feed goldfish to their top-of-the-heap arowanas. I will e-mail them your inputs and convince them to do otherwise. They'll have to re-think their feeding regimens, I guess!.

I myself have 5 red-bellies that regularly eat goldfish feeders, so I'll have to find other live feed for them now.

Princely is right, of course...piranhas WILL eat other piranhas. I started out with 7 red-bellies, but the rest of the pack quickly dispatched the other two that were slower and less aggressive in feeding. Survivial of the fittest, and all that...

cheers.

I try and feed ghost shrimp when available. They are always gone around here.

Hiya Pedro, welcome to MFK.
Like I said though, there is nothing wrong with using the occasional healthy goldfish or carp as feeders, just don't use a steady diet of them.
The human disease equivalnt was a problem in the phillipines for GIs living off canned goods and POW fare back in WWII, it is called Beriberi.
Piranha love large insects as well.

The occasional healthy goldfish won't hurt but don't feed them as staple diet. Try mollies or platies. Also if you stop feeding goldfish the elong will take other food, it just might take a week or so, they can easily survive not being fed that long.

Agreed I fed my fish goldfish, just not very often.

all my P's eat pellets. only occationally do I feed them live feeder guppy and goldfish. they seem to be growing pretty well.

Breeding guppies in pirhana tank? Brilliant!

LoL well, the guppies started out as food, and as stated before, the piranha will not bother the guppies at all. so they have been breeding in the piranha take yes, but with no threat from the Elong.. I know it's weird as ****.

Ahhh, so would a cricket & Rosey diet be good to make as a staple diet with an occasional molly or sword tail?

Your probaly ok with feeding your fish goldfish over there, i know a lot of european and asian ray keepers feed there rays goldfish because apparently it is not as common to raise the goldfish in high ammounts of copper. You probaly should check the source of your feeders though.

And for every one else you can go to your local bait shop and pick up bait minnows they will be much healthier for your fish, and probaly cheaper as well.

Rosey reds have the same thiamase content as goldfish. I have never had a problem getting rbps to take pellets and catfish meat as a staple with the live foods as supplements.
