moe214 moe214 is right, got my GATF off live only recently maybe late last year. One year and four months growth for you to that size is slow compared to mine hence why I still believe that the different sp holds true. The other gatf I had kept had similar growth rates that you experienced. Gatf looks better and better as get mature. Such a wicked animal presence to behold in person. ;)

Not trying to change topic, but since everyone's talking of growth rate, what is the exact growth rate for Gatf and how often do you all feed em.

I got mine at 2.5-3", two months ago, for the first month, it was fed only live foods, now it is being fed frozen Tilapia, and live once in a while, shrimps or danios. Feeding schedule is alternate days. But the fish is still hardly 4".

Is this growth rate fine??

I think as juvenile fish, feeding them daily should help with maximum growth. The big one I have experienced some exceptional growth... probably 1" a month steady... but all other gatfs/vatfs I've kept probably experienced half of that speed. My fish are all decent sized now and I only skip every 3rd day of feeding. Average about 5 feeds per week. 30-40% water changes every 5 days.

Can't say completely conclusively but there should be multiple sp of both gatf and vatf. From my experience there is indeed a sumo body variation of both vatf/gatf. I've grown out about 6 gatf and the only one I have currently grew exceptionally fast and is not as skittish as the other ones. The one I have seems to look a little diff from the ones posted @luval keepinfish keepinfish none the less, beautiful gatf there. IMO I think it's fine to keep with stingrays at the size already. Once they get larger, they might nip at the stingrays if they float around or climb walls a lot. At least mine does, will have to see as i move them into a larger setup. I have a friend with 65-70cm that is quite aggressive so I'm not sure if they just get more and more impatient as they mature, which may be the case as we've seen posted here on MFK.

Does the tiger ever bother the rays or the tig? Or if you keep him full of food there isn't an issue??
Beautiful fish! All of them!

My BD ray gets bitten by the gatf every other month I feel... probably because of all the wall climbing and floating around, maybe irritating to the gatf..

Yeah that's amazing. I've had my GATF for 15 months now and it went from 4" to about 11.5".

Looking good! Makes me want to get one. Some day.
