for the last 2 years I had what was sold to as a breeding pair of molwie kribs the never spawned but were always together every now and then the male would chase the female. Well 3 weeks ago I saw the male chasing the female that was the last time I saw the female so yesterday I decided to tare the tank down so moved the male into a community tank. Removed all caves plants water and substrate not a sign of female couldn't jump out as the tank was fully enclosed and the 2 kribs were the only fish in the tank no fish remains nothing.

This sort of thing happens to every fish keeper at some point.
Chances are the Krib died, was at least partially consumed by the tankmate & the BB in the substrate took care of the remains.

Animals in the house? Fish could have jumped, then been consumed or moved by a cat or dog.

as we have a cat I had a cat safe lid built so the fish can't jump out and cat cant get in so maybe the male killed the female. The tank was heavily planted and maybe that kept the water quality good.

As Stephen said, this happens to most of us during our time in the hobby.

You say the last time you saw it was 3 weeks ago? Small dead fish can get polished off very quickly by tankmates or just the natural process of the nitrogen cycle. Your heavily planted tank may have helped with the excess ammonia.

You'll also be amazed at how fish can worm their way into the smallest nooks and crannies in bogwood and such, only to discover they can't retreat out! I've had a few missing fish over the years go that way.

yes the tank is now empty and all sand substrate removed no remains of the female krib so maybe the nitrogen cycle did it's thing a the only tank mate was the male

Do you have hollow decorations. My pair would get themselves hidden in them and disappear, staying in the decor even when out of the tank. If there are eggs it is possible it is there.

yes all caves and bogwood were empty sifted through the sand no remains I have broken the tank down as there was no point keeping one male molwie krib on its own so he is now in one of my community tanks

With water temp and bacteria, remains can disappear really quickly. As stated, this happens to most fish keepers at some point
