Gonna probably lose power, any ideas how to keep tank warm?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Also if your lucky enough to have gas heat, just crank the furnace to 90* and turn your whole house into a discus sauna party.

Also consider those heat pads you can get at the pharmacy for muscle pains etc. the adhesive ones that you squeeze to activate. Stick them on the outside of your tank and wrap with a blanket.

I agree, don't really want to do that either. ALL GENERATORS ARE SOLD OUT !!! EVERYWHERE!
My neighbor just designated an extension cord for me run the tank. Just have to run a cord to their house. Raking their leaves just paid off.

good point...didn't think about how the entire east coast panics and buys everything at every store the moment snow is called for...

Yeah I guess they flew out the doors along with the rock salt and shovels days ago..Was it you who posted about a similar dilemma a year or so ago?
Yep, and I might add that I am the jackass who didn't learn from that. It was Sandy...5 days no electric and all fish lived but one 5" clown loach. Good luck over there in Philly. We're anticipating 16" or more.

Thanks and when all of this blows over you know what you need to go and get as soon as they are restocked.

Wrap the tank in blankets. That will help to insulate. I live in an apartment so a generator is a no-go for me. Thankfully, my parents have a standby generator and I have an inverter/battery. My plan is to run the tank for 2 hours, then off for 2 hours; while I re-charge the battery at my parents. That's if I lose power.

Back up plan for you would be a battery powered aerator and a lot of blankets. Wrapped in blankets it would take quite some time for that tank to cool down.

Like to add ...... Styrofoam ---- tape styrofoam around the whole tank.....

best of luck
