I'm gonna try to reseal my 90 gallon again this weekend. Last time I tried about a year or so it started leaking the night before I was going to bring it in. Whats a good sealant to use I read the sticky and saw a lot suggested. I think last time I used GE but can't remember which one. Also does anyone have any links to a good article on how to seal it that I can follow.

Thanks

Make sure the glass is completely clean. When you are sure its been scraped clean ,scrub it with scotchbrite and scrape it again.Do the whole seal, dont try to patch.after applying a nice even bead all the way around with the cauking gun, wearing latex gloves, smooth the bead into the corners with your finger.Let it sit a week before test filling it.Check the silicone tube for minimum working temp before starting.

Thanks For the reply this is different then the way I did it last time so that may be why it didn't work. I got a few questions. To scrape it would you recommend a razor blade? When you say scotchbrite is this like a kitchen cleaner or a sponge? I've heard of it but never used it. If it is a powder or something like that what would you recommend me scrubbing it with like a sponge you would use on a frying pan not the metal on but the one thats green. Also once I use the scotchbrite it it is a cleaner should I use something like vinegar or something to make sure I get it all off so it don't hurt the fish it the sealing is a success?

GE silicone I

Thanks is this just a all purpose one or do they have different kinds like for bathrooms and windows and if so which one would I want? I read in the sticky that the bathroom one has a mildew thing on it that will keep algae from growing and can be bad for fish.

Ok just checked out a few articles and going by what you guys said I think I got how to do it so I'm gonna run down the steps and could you guys let me know if I'm on the right path.

Get a razor blade and start sliding it under the seals but make sure not to cut to deep because you don't want the blade getting in between the glass panels. Run the blade all the way down and start pulling the old sealant off. Once I have done the four sides and the bottom get a scotchbrite sponge pretty sure its a sponge just googled it. and get some acetone (not sure were to get this though and ideas). start scrubbing were the silicone was once done scrape again. Make sure its really nice and clean and get all the old silicone out. Get some masking tape and tape off were the silicone is going. Get the silicone and and gun and run a bead have a glass of rubbing alcohol and once i have the bead ran dip my finger in the rubbing alcohol and run my finger down the bead to smooth it out. Reason for the rubbing alcohol is so the silicone don't stick to your finger. Once everything is done take masking tape off and wait for it to dry. Tube of silicone said 48 hours but should I wait longer like suggest like a week before filling it for water test.

Thanks please let me know if anything I have said is wrong and about the acetone.

i think you have a pretty good handle on it. i personally don't think it's as difficult as some people make it out to be.

the GE silicone I is the one that doesn't have the algecides and what not in it. i think you can also find silicone II without them, but silicone I is pretty much a sure bet.
