Gooch, Wallago leeri, bichir com tank??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not really. Even with "sleeper" in its name, that goby has a big mouth

Fail to see what difference the size of its mouth makes. I didn't say it would lose to the goonch in an eating competition.

It was jlnguyen74's way of saying that the Goby is as likely to eat anything else as they are to be eaten, if not more so in this case. A 6 inch Sleeper isn't like other fish 6 inches, they're quite robust. Kind of like a redtail catfish 6 inches is not on the same level as other fish. Both fish are more massive being almost as wide as they are long, though I will admit the redtail takes it to another level that the goby doesn't match up to. Still at a relatively small size they're more capable hunters then fish larger than they and their robust body also makes them less likely to be eaten then fish their own size or even slightly larger. That bigger than normal mouth along with a crotchety old man attitude Sleepers have means they'd be more likely to hurt the Goonch then the other way around at a juvenile size.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE share pics of the goonch even if you don't buy it. Specimens collected from the Indonesian archipelago are hard to come by in this part of the world and I would LOVE to be able to put eyes on pictures of it.

The proposed stock may or may not work. Leeri are serious predators and I've heard stories of them killing goonches before. Goonch cats are actually fairly passive and are prime candidates to get picked on and to have trouble acquiring food. The goonch itself isn't the fish I'd be worried about in your combo.

Actually my wallago is quite peaceful with the 6" polys and it never tries to bully any fish in the tank...:headbang2
I'll do my best for the photos...The gooch in my country are usually caught from borneo, and it is way cheaper than the ones from India...

Good stuff with the wallagos! If you can get some goonch for cheap give it a try. :)

You might be interested to know that the goonches from Borneo are a different species than the ones from India. :) I'd do just about anything to get one! I think they're beautiful.

I might try to move the other fish to another tank after I give it a go with the gooch. That is if I decide to get one... :nilly:
The fish store owner offered the fish for half of the normal price...:headbang2
