Just wanted to know which would be the most cost effective/ideal in terms of buying the fish and maintaining them for a long-term with some other tankmates:

1:
4x Asian Arowana (Green, Banjar, RTG, Chili)
2x Silver Arowana
1x Black Arowana
1x African Arowana
1x Jardini Arowana
1x Leichardti Arowana

2:
4x Asian Arowana (Green, Banjar, Xback, Chili)
1x Silver Arowana
2x Black Arowana
1x African Arowana
1x Jardini Arowana
1x Leichardti Arowana

3:
3x Asian Arowana (Green, Banjar, Chili)
2x Silver Arowana
2x Black Arowana
1x African Arowana
1x Jardini Arowana
1x Leichardti Arowana

4:
2x Asian Arowana (Green or Banjar or RTG or Xback, Chili)
2x Silver Arowana
2x Black Arowana
2x African Arowana
1x Jardini Arowana
1x Leichardti Arowana

5:
4x Asian Arowana (Green, Banjar, Xback, Chili)
2x Silver Arowana
2x Black Arowana
2x African Arowana
1x Jardini Arowana
1x Leichardti Arowana

6:
4x Asian Arowana (Green, Banjar, RTG or Xback, Chili)
1x Silver Arowana
1x Black Arowana
1-2x African Arowana
1x Jardini Arowana
1x Leichardti Arowana

The tank will be an 8x4x4.

As I mentioned, I'd like to know possibly how much I might be spending on each of these plans, supposing I go for one. And BTW, I'm not doing this tank anytime soon, so I just want to already get some prep work started on what I'll need and how much I'll be paying for.

seriously, i wouldnt risk having the african aros in there at all and just get another asian aro with the money saved.

African aro are kinda hard to take care as they are filter feeders. Just get another aro to replace the african aro. Your other aros will eat all the food before your african aro start eating. African aro are also aggresive toward the true arowana species. This is just base on my own experience.

lol? Where did you hear that african aros filter feed?

African Arowanas are usually filter fed when they are still at their younger age, but as they grow they can we fed just like any other arowana.
NOW to answer your question I really like idea #2. As for $$ wise here is an idea......I have a 180 gallon setup with 3 arowanas (See Signiture). I do a daily water change of 40 gallons-50 gallons (Bumped it up from 30 gallons a day) DAILY.
I feed them twice a day morning and evening and I spend around $20 every two weeks for food. (Mainly just 2 packs of 2 lb raw shrimp).
As for all the bills (I don't pay, my parents do :D) are around $100-$200 (Including water and electricity only) BTW they pay the bills every month, but for water I think its every 3 months.....
Anyways that is just and idea so yeah...... GL with your plan and post lots of pictures when you finally choose one of those setups!

no, actually im not kidding. I never knew that. When i hear arowana i only think of asian aros and thats what i assume.

Hmm, can't comment on afro and lei seeing that i never kept one, but i think it is not necessary to have a banjar if you got a chilli already. For asian aro collection just stick with X-back, chilli, green and RTG ... though there is no guarantee that it will work. red, x-back and blue is working for me now (green removed). HBRTG, black and green is no working (currently separated).

Cut one silver and black (one each) - imo no need two of each

...then you have a jar ... i would not risk asian aros with a jar ... but that's just me =P

And lastly, start that savings account. You gonna needed it ^^ your collection would be quite impressive $$$$wise. Tank to hold all those fish is gonna be quite costly too

Best of luck ^^
